Setting up a JustGiving page
There are two options:-
Option 1. A Charity Fundraising Page
This allows you to use graphics and information about the charity you are supporting. Donations go direct to Ukrainian Action (one of the charities registered with JG, Charity Number 1202133
It is essential to notify Team Devon of your fundraising page URL (eg. https://www.justgiving.com/page/john-smith-2687), so we can register it with UA London and ensure the donations generated are ring-fenced for Team Devon. Email philbolt1@googlemail.com with details of your fundraising.
A Charity Fundraising Page gives donors an option to add Gift Aid, boosting donations by 25%!
Option 2. A personal Crowdfunding Page –
You cannot use any text of graphics (logos for instance) that link you to any charity. If you do, the page will be rejected by the JG verification process. Also, the money raised can only go into a personal bank account that you control. Therefore, there is no opportunity for the donor to add Gift Aid. The Fundraiser who has set up a crowdfunding page, cannot add personal Gift Aid to the funds raised, as the money was given by others (HMRC ruling).
Important Note (with either option)
JustGiving try to take a large slice of all donations by automatically adding a tip of up to 20%! However, this can be reduced down to £0 if the donor takes care and uses the ‘slider bar’ at the final payment stage and selects the level of Tip they wish to make (if any).
You can copy and paste this note onto your supporting email message, if you would like to make your potential donors aware of this manual override control of the tip.
To set up a JustGiving page
Most UA Team Devon supporters find setting up a JustGiving page fairly straightforward, but If you are not very computer confident and are starting to struggle, please shout Help to one of the team using the email form at the foot of this page. We will be pleased to do whatever we can to get your appeal up and running as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Sign Up/Log In: Visit the JustGiving website and create an account.
Start a Fundraiser: Click "Start Fundraising" and select whether you are raising money for a registered charity or for a personal cause (crowdfunding).
Select Activity Type: Choose if you are taking part in an event, celebrating an occasion, doing your own activity, or fundraising in memory of someone.
Set Goal & Details: Set your fundraising target, choose a custom web address (URL), and add a page summary explaining your cause.
Customize Page: Add a profile picture, photos, and videos, which can increase donations.
Gift Aid: Ensure you allow donors to add Gift Aid (this increases donation values by 25%, courtesy of HMRC). NB. This only applies if you are setting up a Just Giving page in aid of a charity. Crowdfunding pages do not qualify.
Launch and Share: Click "Launch" and share your page via email, social media, or WhatsApp.
NB. Don't worry if your page it is not fully finished when you first launch it, as you can add or amend at any time subsequently. It is quite normal to make quite a few amendments over the first few days after launching, whilst you fine tune your appeal.
Also- Family and friends from outside the UK can make donations to your UK JustGiving appeal, in almost any currency (including crypto), so send your appeal message widely to everyone you know, You will be amazed how generous your network of contacts will be. However, donors from outside the UK will not be able to add GiftAid, as they will not be taxed under HMRC regulations.
Tips for Success
Tell Your Story: Explain why you are fundraising and how the money will be used.
Send your full appeal message by email or WhatsApp, but don't repeat it all on your JustGiving page (just a summary, with a good picture of you doing your fundraising activity ... otherwise it is repetition).
Use Visuals: Pages with photos and videos raise more money.
Update Supporters: Post regular updates to keep donors engaged.
Use QR Codes: Create a QR code to make in-person, offline donations easier. Then use it, everywhere you can. It could boost your fundraising by as much as 50%!
Use only the ’Team Devon’ logo (copy image & paste) found on the top left hand side of our web pages; like this one
Other graphics and photos can be copied from our website or contact Richard B at help@uateamdevon.uk with a request for the type of image you want to use. We have a large library of pictures available.
MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL - Tell UA Team Devon your Just Giving Account URL (web address), eg, https://www.justgiving.com/page/john-smith-4852, so we can identify funds raised on your page and ensure they go to Team Devon! Email: philbolt1@googlemail.com
By fundraising to help UA Team Devon support the beseiged people of Ukraine, whose lives are being bombarded and destroyed daily by Russian agression, you are doing something truly amazing for humanity.
